Chris Kirby Artist
I am a still-life painter, living in North Norfolk.
My art can be described as semi-abstract in style. I'm particularly interested in the placement and juxtaposition of shapes and forms which I often present in a mildly distorted or "flattened" perspective.
Admitted to Kingston School of Art & Design in the late 60s, my early Influences include the French post-impressionists, particularly Paul Cezanne - and the St. Ives School, especially artists Ben Nicholson and Christopher Wood.
Over the years, I have taken a multi-disciplined approach to my art having practiced: collage using fabrics, constructive sculptural work, enhanced photo-based artwork, as well as traditional painting on canvas and board. I have exhibited internationally including galleries in New York, London and Rome.
My recent still-life subjects are typically: home crockery, fruits and flowers on tables and old wooden fishing boats, inspired by the Norfolk coast where I live.
